About the Scheme
What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?
India's flagship rooftop solar scheme for homes.
Approved in February 2024 with an outlay of ₹75,021 crore, the scheme aims to put solar on one crore rooftops. Eligible households receive up to ₹78,000 towards a rooftop solar system — so they draw less from the grid and pay far less every month.
The subsidy goes straight into your bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), once your system is installed and commissioned.

Government Subsidy Structure
₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the third — capped at ₹78,000 for 3 kW and above.
- Special category states & UTs (North-East, hill states, islands) get 10% more — up to ₹85,800.
- Housing societies & RWAs: ₹18,000 per kW for common facilities, up to 500 kW.

Who Can Apply
Eligibility & Documents
You're eligible if…
- You are an Indian citizen.
- The property is residential — commercial and industrial buildings are not covered.
- You own the house, or hold rights to use its roof.
- You have an active electricity connection from your DISCOM.
- You have not already claimed another subsidy for rooftop solar.
- You have roughly 80–100 sq. ft. of shade-free roof for every 1 kW.

How to Apply
Seven Steps to Your Subsidy

Register on the National Portal
Sign up at pmsuryaghar.gov.in with your state, DISCOM, consumer number and mobile OTP.

Apply for rooftop solar
Log in, add your roof details and the system size you want, and submit the application.

Choose a registered vendor
Once your DISCOM clears feasibility, select an MNRE-registered vendor like Bhanu.
- 04Bhanu
Get your system installed
Your vendor installs the system with Made-in-India DCR panels and approved components.
- 05Bhanu
Inspection & net meter
The DISCOM inspects the installation and fits a net meter.
- 06Bhanu
Commissioning certificate
The commissioning report is generated and uploaded on the portal.

Subsidy in your bank
Submit your bank details — the subsidy is credited directly, usually within about 30 days.
